Day 10: Nanchang: The Deluge (4/14/2012)

Tamasyn in one of her big brother's hand me downs:

It rained today.  It rained a lot.  Our guide, fighting a sinus infection, took us out anyway.  We had planned to head to another park but headed to the indoor flea market and a bookstore instead.  On the walk from where the taxi dropped us off to the flea market, we encountered many street vendors mostly selling food, including stinky tofu - a smell that stays with you for a while!  I was most impressed with the number of people navigating their way through the city on bikes during the rainstorm - poncho for them and their vehicles.  Many had passengers wielding umbrellas.  I had visions of those getting caught on cars, wires, other umbrellas, etc., leading to mayhem but did not actually see that happen.

The flea market was a maze and Evelyn helped us to navigate well but it was a bit claustrophobic so we made a purchase relatively quickly and headed to the bookstore.  DVDs and CDs are incredibly cheap here.  Many things are the same price as what we would pay at home.

The problem with the rain and having to take a taxi everywhere is getting a taxi back to the hotel.  We finally did but it probably took about 30 minutes to find one with enough space for the 4 of us.  We shared a ride with another fellow for a short distance and when he got out, Evelyn was able to move to the front seat.  Taxi's here are smaller cars, so the backseat is a bit crunched for 3 adults.

Back to the hotel, waterlogged, for some playtime with Tam!
Starting to show interest in toys

We got the great news that cousin Isabelle arrived on 4/12, 2 minutes before midnight, so she shares her birthday with hubs!  Can't wait to get home to meet her!!!
